It is also enhanced for Xbox One X and free to play for Xbox Game Pass members State of Decay 2 is Microsofts next big Xbox exclusive and the games release date is fast approaching. Technically you can start playing it from this Friday (May 18) if youre purchased the games Ultimate Edition, but for everyone else, the game is out next Tuesday, May 22. Reviews for the game finally went live this morning, including the Daily Stars own impressions (more on that below) and so far the game has picked up a middling response from critics. State of Decay 2, in many ways, is performing in much the same way as Xboxs other big exclusive this year, Sea of Thieves, which is currently sitting on a 66 and 69 score on Opencritic and Metacritic respectively. By comparison, State of Decay 2 is sitting slightly better, on a respectable, but not glowing, 69 and 70 on Opencritic and Metacritic. ![]() Your love of the game will depend on where that all balances out for you. So, a mixed bag. Keep reading to see what the rest of the industry thought of the game. Eurogamer - Avoid - Review Quote: State of Decay 2 is a poor return on the scruffy promise of its predecessor, which topped Xbox Live Arcade charts largely, I suspect, for its resemblance to DayZ. It tantalises with the thought of raggedy everyday heroes pooling their myriad talents to survive, only to quantify and busywork all that out of existence. IGN - 7.810 - Review Quote: Combat is satisfyingly brutal and the special zombies inspire some real fear of permanent death, even though the Blood Plague turns out to be more of a sniffle. State Of Decay Metacritic Series Potential AsGamesradar - 710 - Review Quote: State of Decay 2 confidently reaches the series potential as the ultimate zombie survival sim, even if it hits a few familiar bumps in the road on the way there. Trusted Reviews - 3.55 - Review Quote: State of Decay 2 suffers from repetitive combat and poor player communication throughout. Fans of survival sims will likely appreciate the greater attention to detail and increased demands when it comes to sustaining your communities, but for more casual players the constant need to find dozens of items or resources just to keep everything ticking over will just annoy, the longer you go on. State of Decay 2 Xbox One State of Decay 2 Xbox One Critical Hit - 6.510 - Review Quote: State of Decay 2s overall lack of polish can almost be excused given its scale and its price, but its problems are too numerous. Polygon - Review Quote: Post-apocalyptic fiction is surely about the worth (or otherwise) of human existence. If this game is about the value of life and living, the pure fun of being, then it works best as a reminder that there are other ways to spend our precious time. Kotaku - Review Quote: For as much fun as I had with the game, I expected a bit more polish. Ladders were generally a bigger threat to my survival than the zombies, as wonky controls sent me plummeting to the ground as I tried to descend. Videogamer - 610 - Review Quote: State of Decay 2 has some fun additions that can keep things interesting.
